What we do
We install and replace skylights and rooflights in homes. That takes in roof windows in pitched slate and tile roofs, rooflights and roof lanterns on flat roofs, electric and opening units, energy efficient glazing, walk-on panels for roof terraces, slim conservation rooflights for traditional roofs, and sun tunnels for rooms the roof cannot reach directly. Replacing misted or worn-out rooflights is a large part of the work too, from a single sealed unit to a whole frame.
Homes come first, but we are glad to take on small commercial work with the same products, whether that is a lantern over a shop's back room or a run of roof windows in an office loft. The full list of what we fit is on the services page.
The idea behind the name
The crest of a roof is its ridge, the highest line of the house, and it is the part closest to the open sky. Daylight from up there can drop straight into a room that a wall window would never reach, which is the whole reason we do this work. Our line for it is daylight where the windows can't reach.
In practice that means we begin each visit inside the house, in the room that gets the least light, and only then go up to the roof above it. The unit is the last thing we choose. We have written that method up in full on our darkest room first page.
Where we work
Our base is Leeds, and we travel up to 30 road miles out from it. That reaches Harrogate and Knaresborough to the north, York and Selby to the east, Wakefield, Pontefract and Barnsley to the south, and Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield and the Calder and Aire valleys to the west. Every town we cover has its own page on our areas list, describing the local houses and naming the planning council.
We are a service-area business without public premises, so the work happens at your home and the conversation starts by phone, WhatsApp or the quote form.
How a job runs with us
- The survey. We visit, see the room you want brighter, climb to the roof over it, measure up and check whether planning, a listing or a conservation area affects the job.
- The written quote. A fixed price follows on paper, with the room, the chosen unit and its size set down beside it.
- The paperwork. Where the work is notifiable, we notify Building Control, and we settle any planning questions before an order is placed.
- Fitting day. We protect the house, form the opening, weather the unit into the roof, then line and plaster the reveal inside so the room is ready to decorate or use.
- Afterwards. Your installation carries a ten-year guarantee on our workmanship.
We work with slate, stone, concrete tile, felt, EPDM and GRP, and each one gets the flashing or upstand detail it needs. Older Leeds roofs and newer estate roofs call for different care at the edges, and we plan that detail on the survey.
Makes, models and how we recommend one
We fit VELUX roof windows and units from other makers, and the recommendation comes from the house rather than from a catalogue. An internal bathroom under a loft usually points to a sun tunnel, a stairwell under a slate slope to a roof window, and the far end of a kitchen extension to a lantern or a flat rooflight. Those pairings are set out in more depth in our skylight and rooflight types guide, if you want to read ahead before we visit.
Glazing, frame finish and the way a unit opens are talked through on the survey, with the reasons for each suggestion. Our costs page explains how those choices move the price, and the guarantee page sets out what our workmanship guarantee covers over its ten years and how to claim.
