Once your enquiry reaches us
Your enquiry comes to us directly. We read it, and then we get in touch by phone or message to ask anything the form did not cover: which room it is, roughly what sits above it, and if this is a new skylight or a swap for an old rooflight. From that conversation we agree a day and time for the survey that suits you.
Useful things to have ready
None of this is needed to book, but each item saves a question on the day:
- A couple of daytime photos of the room, taken from the doorway.
- A photo of the roof over it, from the garden or the street if it can be seen safely from the ground.
- For a replacement, a photo of any label or code on the old frame, often found inside the sash on a roof window.
- Any plans or planning paperwork for a recent or planned extension or loft conversion.
- Whether the house is listed or sits in a conservation area, if you already know.
Photos are easiest to send by WhatsApp to 07880 284133. Add your name and postcode so we can match them to your enquiry.
The survey visit
We start in the room you told us about, noting where its window is, how the room is used and where the daylight needs to land. Then we look at the roof over it, from inside the loft where there is one and from outside, measuring rafters or joists, the depth of any void and the covering on top. We also check the planning position, including any listing, conservation area or Article 4 direction, so nothing is ordered before those questions are answered.
You are welcome to ask as much as you like while we are there. If something about the job is unusual, we will explain it before we leave.
Your written quote
After the visit we send a written quote. It sets down the room, the unit we recommend and its measured size, with one fixed price for the job. You can take as long as you need to think it over. When you are ready to go ahead, reply to the quote and we will book a fitting date with you. You can read how prices are worked out on our costs page.
