Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement covers the Northcrest Skylights Leeds website: the standard it is built to, the parts we know fall short, and how to tell us when something gets in your way. Prepared October 2026.

The standard we work to

We want anyone looking into a skylight or rooflight for their home to be able to use this site, whether they browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, a screen magnifier, voice control or a phone held in one hand. The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, the benchmark widely used for websites in the UK.

As a business serving the public, we also have duties under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments, so that disabled people are not put at a disadvantage when they deal with us. That applies to the survey, the written quote and the installation as much as to these pages.

What the site does to help

  • A "skip to content" link is the first thing a keyboard reaches on every page, so you can jump past the menu.
  • Each page has one main heading, and the headings below it run in order, which lets screen reader users move through a page by its sections.
  • Text and button colours have been tested in a browser against the backgrounds they sit on, for the contrast WCAG requires.
  • The menus and the WhatsApp message panel open and close from the keyboard, and the Escape key closes whichever is open.
  • If your device is set to reduce motion, the gentle animations as sections appear are switched off.
  • Photographs and drawings carry text alternatives describing what they show.
  • Tables are laid out to restack on a phone screen, so you never have to scroll sideways to read one.
  • The fonts are served from our own server, so the text appears even when other services are blocked.

Parts we know fall short

The quote form

The enquiry form is supplied by another company, Mortaro CRM, and appears inside a frame on our pages. We have given that frame a title so screen readers announce it, but the labels, error messages and focus order inside it are controlled by the provider, and some may not meet WCAG 2.1 AA. If the form gives you any trouble, call 0113 436 0654 instead and we will take the details for a survey over the phone.

The map on the contact page

The map that shows how far we travel is visual. It can be zoomed with its buttons or the keyboard, but it tells a screen reader user very little. The same information, every town and village we cover, is set out as a text list on our areas page.

Services run by others

Links from this site to WhatsApp, OpenStreetMap, GOV.UK and other services take you to pages we do not run, and their accessibility is the responsibility of the organisations behind them.

We are working to close these gaps. Where the form provider makes improvements, we will take them up and update this statement.

How the site was checked

This statement is based on our own testing during the build in October 2026. That testing combined automated checks run in a real browser, including colour contrast measured on every page type, with manual keyboard checks of the menus, links, panels and forms, and viewing pages at phone and desktop widths.

Asking for another format or reporting a problem

If any page or document is hard for you to use, tell us and we will find another way to give you the information. We can talk a written quote through with you over the phone, send it as plain text, or produce it in large print, and the person who surveys your roof can walk you through what they found in whatever way suits you.

To report a problem with the website, email info@northcrestskylightsleeds.co.uk and include:

  • the address of the page, or a short description of where you were
  • what you were trying to do and what went wrong
  • the device, browser and any assistive technology you were using, if you know them

We read every report, and a reply comes from a person.

If you are not satisfied with our reply

You can raise the matter formally through our complaints procedure. If you feel we have discriminated against you or failed to make a reasonable adjustment, the Equality Advisory and Support Service gives free advice in England on 0808 800 0082, or by text relay on 0808 800 0084.

Keeping this statement up to date

We will review this statement at least once a year, and sooner whenever the site changes in a way that affects how it can be used, for example if a new form, map or analytics tool is added. Each review moves on the date at the top of the page.
