Cookies and storage

Cookie policy

Our cookie policy sets out what this skylight and rooflight website stores on your device, which outside services your browser contacts while you read it, and how you stay in charge of both. Revised October 2026.

What counts as a cookie

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to save. The same rules cover similar technology, such as local storage, tracking pixels and scripts that let another company follow your visit from site to site.

Cookies come in a few kinds. A session cookie disappears when you close the browser, while a persistent one stays until its expiry date or until you delete it. A first-party cookie is set by the site you are on; a third-party cookie is set by another company whose content appears on that site, such as an embedded form, video or advert, and it is the third-party kind that is normally used to follow people around the web.

In the UK those rules come from the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003, usually shortened to PECR. Under them a website may store information on your device, or read information already there, only with your consent, unless an exemption applies. The main exemption covers storage that is strictly necessary to give you something you have asked for. Where a cookie can identify you, UK GDPR applies as well, and our privacy policy explains how we treat personal data.

What our own pages store

At launch, the Northcrest Skylights Leeds website sets no cookies of its own on the devices of people reading it. The pages carry no analytics script, no advertising pixel and no social media tracking. Reading about lanterns, VELUX windows or sun pipes leaves nothing from us behind in your browser.

The site runs on WordPress, which sets login cookies for the few people who sign in to manage the content. Visitors never sign in, so those cookies never reach them.

The typefaces you see are stored on our own server and sent with the page. No request goes out to a font service such as Google Fonts, so no third party learns about your visit that way. The same is true of Leaflet, the code that draws the map on the contact page.

Outside services your browser may contact

A few features rely on other companies. Each is listed here with what it involves:

Third-party services on this website
ServiceWhere you meet itWhat happens
Mortaro CRM quote formThe quote page and the forms on other pagesThe form arrives in a frame served by mortaro-crm-production.up.railway.app. Any storage inside that frame belongs to the form provider and is there to run and send the form.
OpenStreetMap map tilesThe contact pageYour browser downloads map images from OpenStreetMap servers, which see your IP address. We have set the map up without tracking cookies.
WhatsApp (wa.me)WhatsApp buttons and the message panelNothing loads until you press send or tap a button. From then on, WhatsApp's own cookie and privacy terms apply.

Because the quote form sits in a frame served from another address, your browser treats any storage it uses as belonging to that address. You can ask us about it at info@northcrestskylightsleeds.co.uk.

Analytics, now and later

The site has been built so that a measuring tool such as Google Analytics 4 could be added later. For now there is none. While a page is open, our code keeps a short list of events in your browser's memory, for example that a WhatsApp button was pressed or that a phone number was tapped. That list is never written to your device, never sent anywhere, and vanishes as soon as you leave or reload the page, because no analytics script is installed to collect it.

If we decide to add analytics, three things happen first. This page will be updated to name the tool, the cookies it sets and how long each one lasts. A consent banner will be added, and the tool will run only after you agree to it. A link on every page will let you change that choice whenever you like.

Managing cookies yourself

Every main browser lets you see, block and delete cookies and site data, usually under its privacy or security settings. You can also set it to clear everything when you close it. The help pages for Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge each explain the steps, and the Information Commissioner's Office has general guidance on cookies at ico.org.uk.

Blocking third-party storage can stop some embedded forms from sending. If the quote form will not work for you, ring 0113 436 0654 instead and we can take the details for a survey of your skylight or rooflight over the phone.

Keeping this page current

Any change to the cookies or third-party services on this site will be shown here before it goes live, with a fresh date in the standfirst above. Questions about anything on this page can go to info@northcrestskylightsleeds.co.uk.
